Really!

Did you create this?

Wow! That's so cool.

You actually wrote that?

Is it your work?

Your idea?

Your concept?

19 years in advertising

and I've seen so many

idea stealers, appropriaters,

"i-was-part-of-the-teamsters"

Shameless. Spineless. Parasites.

And it amuses me.

To see them hover around.

Hoping to hold on to droppings.

Pushing in to share the sun.

And I smile.

Happy that my ideas flow.

So easy. Simply. Effortlessly.

That at latter times I ask myself,

"Hey did you create this?"

That's when I know

I've leaped.

In creative work, people are big
copycats at times... be it in any discipline. A an ex Prof of electronics,
I found it hard to make the kids learn the meaning of academic integrity by
acknowledging even bibliographic references, if not downright cut and paste
jobs! Advertising is one hell of a creative disciline, where there are
hardly any teachers, the learning is mostly by watching what others do, and
that is the license for copying!

I know whatchya saying!!! But hey,
atleast a dozen times, I have come across ads done miles apart- say Rio de
Janerio and Malaysia - published in same issue of Lurzer''s Archives, with
bloody uncanny similarity in concept, visual or copy.... What you are
saying holds 100% true, but then how impossible is it for a bunch of guys
to be thinking along same lines at the same time???? I''m not negating
blatant plagarism or ''inspirations'' that low lifes resort to. But just
think about what I''m saying for a minute ok. Even in Science, we''ve had
whole lotta people burning mid night oil over the same shit and then Voila!
the one who makes it to the press first, is the ONE. I''ve read stories
about Edison, m''me Curie, Wright Bros....

your concept ? your idea ? is anything
actually only yours, dont u think it evolves thru many experiences for
which u owe others... are we all in it together ? in one way or other,
others did contribute, atleast in making u think what u wrote....hmmm

hey that''s cool--i had guessed u might
be in advtg. or journalism, it''s nice that u are able to hold your place
as the front runner and come out winning, and not remain an also-ran. By
the way i have quite a few of my neices/cousins in advtg and my daughter
had done a few tvc''s for local channels, also a few films; now she''s got
bugged with the process of shooting and has got serious about her classical
dance/music lessons.

Piracy is an international epidemic, a
truly global phenomenon. It is the third ingredient of human blood
alongwith red and white corpuscles. Acknowledging this takes you way above
all others as admission is the first step towards reformation.
